The smell of simit fresh off the street cart on a cold Tuesday morning — that's where my Istanbul begins, not at the tourist landmarks. I know which neighborhoods still hold their weekly pazar traditions, which tea houses are where old men actually play backgammon, and which ferries to take just to watch locals live their day across the Bosphorus. My passion is showing people the city that breathes underneath the obvious one.
