What sets Petersburg apart from other places I've lived is how ordinary life here happens quietly, folded into old courtyards and long conversations over tea rather than out on display. I know which bakeries locals actually go to, when the drawbridges become a reason to stay up all night, and why we complain about the weather but never really mean it. Ask me about the little kitchen where they still make pyshki the old way — powdered sugar everywhere, and worth it.
