Right now I'm standing outside a spice souk stall that's been run by the same family for four generations, and the owner just told me a story I hadn't heard before. I spend most of my time collecting these things — which pearl merchant's house hides a scandal, why a certain alley got its name, what really happened at the old fort. A place is only as good as the stories it carries.
